What has been the biggest surprise about motherhood?
I think the biggest surprise is how instantly after you give birth, you see this whole new world that you didn’t know existed, and you feel part of a community that you never saw before. Like you see another mom walking on the other side of the street and you just feel each other. You’re like...a part of motherhood. There’s nothing more pure and beautiful and as strong as that community. I think that’s what I love most about motherhood...aside from, you know, Kaden.
Best moment so far?
I can’t pick one. I will say though, the first time Kaden really looked into my eyes and smiled for the first time was definitely one of the best moments of my life.
What is your favorite thing about your child?
His lips and his tongue. When I kiss him and his tongue touches my lips, it sounds crazy, but that’s one of the favorite things in my life. And now he’s started reaching for me, so when he reaches for me and smiles when I pick him up.
What advice did you take and what advice did you leave?
A lot of people give you a lot of advice and you have no idea what to listen to and what not. I will say that one of my best friends told me one thing when I went into labor and she said don’t even think about anything, your body will know exactly what to do. Just trust the process, trust your body. You don’t have to think about it, it knows what it needs. That’s exactly what happened and that’s really what I leaned into going into labor and going into motherhood.
How does being a mother feel, in your own words?
Like the most powerful and strong and difficult and humbling role that I will ever play in my life. There is so much magic about being a mom and you get to live life again through them and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things.
How has your child inspired you?
I would say, personally, Kaden definitely inspires me to be more present. Automatically a child will make you feel more present because they are so present and so pure and real in their emotions. They’re so genuine and innocent that instantly you become present in their presence. He has definitely brought me more moments to be present, which I’m so grateful for.
